The Leadership Team

Overall strategic leadership and management  of BEST Teaching School is the responsibility of the Director of the Teaching School - Sharon Jeffs.

Sharon works very closely with Teresa Farrow who leads on CPD and Sally Dakin from CBC

Operational activities are managed by the Leadership Team and supported by robust administrative systems.

Sharon joined the Teaching School in September 2012 and leads on School to School Support,the  coordination and deployment of SLEs, R&D and L&M. The projects Sharon has been involved with include the Primary Science Quality Mark, SEND provision and Safeguarding.  As well as organising the ITP, OTAP and OTP Sharon is a trained facilitator.  Sharon teaches science at Robert Bloomfield Academy and also leads on school improvement across the BEST MAT. Prior to moving to RBA, Sharon taught at Sandy Upper School where she held several positions including Assistant Head of Science and Professional Tutor.

Teresa Farrow has worked in Central Bedfordshire Schools since 2004 and in delivery of Professional Development opportunities since 2006. Originally working for the Learning Community 3 area (the Redborne, Samuel Whitbread and Harlington pyramids) her role has changed over the years from working as part of the Redborne Training School team to CPD Lead for BEST Teaching School.  Teresa is highly committed to offering varied and quality CPD programmes & events for staff across Central Bedfordshire which are value for money and locally available.

Sally Dakin joined Central Bedfordshire Council [CBC] when it became a unitary authority in April 2009 as part of the School Improvement Team. She has been responsible for Newly Qualified Teachers [NQTs] since 2010 and is the named LA NQT Co-ordinator for CBC which is an Appropriate Body.  This responsibility has involved working with colleagues from the Teaching School in ensuring approximately 150 NQTs each year and their Induction Tutors are aware of, and fulfil, their statutory requirements in terms of induction. 

Sally’s other responsibilities include:- Schools causing concern which includes the deployment of System Leaders ie National Leaders of Governance [NLGs], NLEs [National Leaders of Education] LLEs [Local Leaders of Education] and SLEs [Subject Leaders of Education]; Ofsted inspections, governance and governor training; Central and Governors’ Essentials and working with the Teaching School.

All school improvement commissions are implemented through a rigorous process; all have clear intended outcomes and quality assurance systems and requirements to ensure the effective use of public money impacts positively on pupil outcomes.  The commissions with the Teaching School include the following:- Leadership development, CPD, Specialist Leaders of Education; School-to-school support and NQTs.
